Getting started:
Your GoldTouch mouse includes driver software that provides
ergonomic features not found in ordinary products. Whilst you may be able to
operate your mouse using the software already installed on your system, you will
not be able to take full advantage of your new mouse unless you properly install
the GoldTouch mouse driver.
The software comes ready to run on Windows 95/98, Windows 3.1 and DOS. Simply
follow the instructions for your particular platform. In addition, the
installation disk includes a README file that contains late breaking information
and tips on how to go about troubleshooting should you need to. Please read it
in conjunction with the following information.
Scoll/Pan Control:
The small left button is your scroll/pan control. This allows
you to navigate more easily using the advanced mouse support in latest
generation programs such as Office 97. You can scroll in the application with
greater ease, or zoom easily for a bird's eye view of your document or
worksheet. It's another ergonomic feature.
By combining the scroll/pan control with certain keystrokes, you can change
its action to suit the task at hand. First, the Scroll Lock key on your keyboard
sets the GoldTouch Mouse to "Scroll mode" (Scroll Lock ON) or "Pan mode" (Scroll
Lock OFF). Each mode provides a distinct set of features for compatible
programs:
Scroll mode features:
- Scrolling
Provides a simple alternative to clicking or dragging
the scroll bars at the edge of a window. Simply move the mouse up or down while
holding the scroll/pan button.
- Zoom
Press CTRL on your keyboard and scroll between different
levels of magnification for documents and graphics.
- Datazoom
Press SHIFT on your keyboard and scroll to zoom between
detail and summary or outline views, as defined by your applications.
Pan mode features
- Panning
Provides an easier way to scroll through large documents
or worksheets. Just press the scroll/pan button and move the mouse a short
distance for slow panning, or a longer distance for fast panning. Release the
button to stop.
- Autoscroll
The simplest stress-free way to review large documents.
Click (press and release) the scroll/pan button, then move the mouse slightly in
the desired direction. This starts a "hands free" scroll action. Click any
button to stop.
Compatibility:
Use of the Scroll Lock key on your keyboard to control
Scroll/Pan behavior may conflict with certain applications.
In this case, you can select Scroll mode or Pan mode manually through the
Control Panel (Mouse Properties / Scrolling).
Scrolling and Panning features will work with applications designed to
industry standards for a wheel mouse or compatible hardware. Scroll mode works
like rolling the wheel; pan mode works like pressing the wheel button.
Maintaining your GoldTouch Mouse:
If the cursor begins to behave erratically, cleaning the ball
and rollers may fix the problem:
- Remove the ball by turning the retainer ring on the base of your mouse
counter clockwise.
- With a clean, lint-free cloth, wipe the ball.
- Carefully remove any dust and lint from the cavity.
- If the rollers are dirty, clean them using a cotton swab, moistened lightly
with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. Make sure the rollers are still centered in
their channels.
- Make sure that there is no fluff from the swab left on the rollers.
- Replace the ball and retainer ring by turning it clockwise.
